Welcome to the El Bekal Oriental Band Music Makers

The Oriental Band is one of the most colorful Units of the Shrine. We play for Ceremonials, march in parades, and serve at the will and pleasure of the Potentate. Our costumes are handmade by the Bandsmen. Each new member is given suitable assistance in procuring the costume materials. Our Ladies, who are known as SHEBAS, generally travel with the Band to most functions.

You do not have to be able to read music. The Band Director, Assistand Director and other Bandsmen will assist you in learning the music. The basic instruments played by the Oriental Band are the Mussette, Drums, Tambourine and Cymbals. The glockenspiel is an approved instrument, plus some other percussion pieces. If you wish to join our Band, you will not have to purchase an instrument to get started. The Band will provide you with an instrument.

The Oriental Band meets at the Shrine Center each Monday night at 7:30pm for a business meeting. Rehearsals follow from 8:00pm to 9:00pm. No meeting in December. To Join, the Initiation Fee is $25:00 and the Annual Dues are $50.00. Call the Shrine office to get the name and phone number of a Unit Officer.
