As you will recall it was agreed that for 2011 all Club tournaments will be held on the 3^rd Monday of each month except for February and June, and established Dad Miller as the Club’s home course for most of the outings in 2011. I have been able to arrange for 16 players for the April outing. Therefore, if you plan to play in any outing, I strongly suggest that you get your reservation in as soon as you receive the newsletter and reservation form to assure a playing spot. In addition, since we do not have a volunteer for Vice President, Tournament Chairman, Treasurer, and Bill Miller will receive your check and reservation form and President Roger Ross will handle the tournament.

On March 21 nine brave souls ventured to the Dad Miller course. The rain gods provided us with plenty of water the night before the outing but when we arrived, there was no rain BUT it looked like it could pour at any time. Four of the group decided to venture forth after the business meeting. I have not had the results for that group yet but I think it might be safe to say that there was a little rain on their parade.

At the meeting, it was agreed to conduct the Potentate’s Official Visit at the Dad Miller Golf Course after the August outing on August 15 provided the facility is available. It was also agreed to support the Annual Temple Golf Tournament again this year for $450.00. This makes the Golf club a co-sponsor of the event. All members are encouraged to get a foursome together and participate in the annual event this year to be held on June 20^th at the Upland Hills Country Club.

At the meeting Don Sorsabal announced that the Annual Frank Pherrin Memorial Golf Tournament will be held once again at the Indian Palms Resort in Indio. That date has been rescheduled to May 8, 9, & 10. Six two bedroom condominiums have been reserve for those participating. The cost of the condominium is $78.00 plus tax per night. The tournament day is May 9. Golf will cost of $44.00 each round and you can play three days if you wish. An information and reservation sheet is included with this newsletter. Since there are only six condominiums, I would suggest that you team up with another couple and share the cost. That way it will only cost you for one night plus food and golf—you really cannot find a better deal. I will need the reservations confirmed by May 2^nd Please complete the reservation form for the Frank Pherrin Tournament as quickly as possible and return it to me with your check now while you are thinking of it. The Golf Club’s next outing will be on April 18 at Dad Miller. The meeting will begin at 8:30 and golf at 9:30. I have been able to arrange for an additional foursome for this date so we can have 16 players.

El Bekal Shrine Golf Club

As you will recall from the last Newsletter, it was decided that for 2011 the El Bekal Golf Club will play its monthly golf outings at the Dad Miller Golf Course in the city of Anaheim and that the outings will be held on the third Monday of each month except for February and June. The third Monday in February is the Indio Parade and the third Monday in June is the Temple’s 25^th Annual Golf Tournament.

Arrangements were made with the Tournament Director for the City of Anaheim for a maximum of 12 players each month at a cost of $29.00 each including green fees and carts. I must confirm reservations with the Dad Miller Golf Course no later than 5 working days prior to the date of the event. The first play date will be January 17 and the first tee time will be at 9:30 AM.

The schedule for the 2011 year is as follows: January 17, March 21, April 18, May 16, July 18, August 15, September 19, October 17, November 21, and December 19. The first tee time for each event is 9:30 AM.

No prize fund is included with the golf fees. If it is the wish of the playing members, a prize fund can be agreed upon at the business meeting prior to the game. I will continue to maintain handicaps for each of our playing members if that is the desire of the Club.

As has been the practice in the past, for the January outing, send your checks and reservation forms to me. REMEMBER THAT ONLY 12 PLAYERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PLAY. RESERVATIONS WILL BE MADE ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS. IF MORE THAT 12 RESERVATIONS ARE RECEIVED, THE FIRST 12 WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE GAME AND THE REMAINING WILL BE PUT ON A WAITING LIST. The Dad Miller Golf Course does not allow fivesomes so the number of players will be 12 or less and no exceptions can be granted.

Our March event was a fun time at San Luis Rey Downs in Bonsal, CA, starting on March 15 and ending on March 17. Seventeen participated including seven ladies. A 3 best ball of five net tournament was played in the men’s division and the Ladies played a straight net game. The results were very close. In the men’s division the team of Dick Joyce, Joe Hammond, Tom Burnet, Dale Closson, and Don Sorsabal won with a score of 195, while close behind in second place with a score of 197 was the team of Russ Albright, Mike Black, Guest Terry Boduc, Bert Duncan, and Bill Miller. For those interested a score of 216 would be par for three players

In the Ladies Division Sondra Closson won with a net score of 80. In second place was Carol Albright with a net score of 81, followed closely in third place by Judy Burnet with a score of 82. In the Men’s Division, Tom Burnett had the best net score of 74. Joe Hammond was second with a net score of 81, closely followed by Dale Closson and Don Sorsabal both with net scores of 82’s.

Sondra Closson, Dale Closson, and Tom Burnett each won a closest to the pin. These holes were not easily reached by our golfers. The best gross score of 95 was recorded by Tom Burnett. Second place went to Don Sorsabal with a 98, and third to Dale Closson with a 101.

A great day was had by all. Of course on Sunday and Monday evenings the group enjoyed superb hospitality, hosted by the Clossons and the Sorsabals

Our April tournament will be played on April 21 at La Mirada Golf Club in La Mirada at 15501 E. Alicante Road in La Mirada. The April tournament will be a four-person Shamble. In June, it will be an individual gross & net tournament with closest to the pin payout at $1.00 per player and no greenies. BUT we will have a 1^st, 2^nd, & 3^rd pay out for the lowest number of putts.

LA County has increased the rate effective January 1. Our cost will now be $49.00 instead of the published price of $46.00 for each player.

The meeting will begin at 9:00 AM. The first tee time will be at 10:00. Space is limited to the first 24 players so complete the attached reservation form and return it to me, Don Sorsabal, 951 St. Andrews Dr., Upland CA 91784 together with your check by April 12. Remember that if no reservation is made and you decide to play and show up, the cost of play is increased by $5.00 (payable at the meeting).

Your roster is available and will be distributed at the meeting.

Starting positions this year will be based upon your net score for the previous month. The person with the best NET score will be in the lead foursome. Your tournament chairman will always be in the lead foursome because he must record the scores at the completion of the round. This means because Tom Burnett had the best net score at San Luis Rey Downs. He will be in the first group with your tournament chairman.
