The schedule golf outing for April had was because of a lack of players. The Club had contracted for 24 players, which is the minimum for a tournament on the Costa Mesa Course, but only 11 members signed up. The Club had to forfeit its $100 deposit because of the cancellation. Hopefully, at least 16 players will make reservations for the May, 26 tournament at Green River.

The Club’s next regular monthly tournament will be on Wednesday, May 26 at the newly renovated and restructured Green River Golf Club in Corona. The Business Meeting will begin at 10:00 AM and the first tee time is set for 11:00 AM. For those traveling from anywhere West of Corona should find the 91-freeway traffic much lighter than if the outing was scheduled for an earlier time. This event will be an individual net event. The May Tournament cost for golf will be $43 each including the prize fund and the Green River Golf Club will provide each player with a sleeve of balls. The Social hour and awards will follow the golf tournament.

As a reminder, your DUES are due NOW. Send your check for $15.00 to the Secretary, Jo Pat Williams at 10221 Ku Kui Dr, Huntington Beach, CA 92646. Make the check payable to El Bekal Shrine Golf Club. If you have already paid your dues, please let Jo Pat know.

Do not forget the Temple Golf Tournament scheduled for June 21 at the Upland Hills Country Club. (The Golf Club will not have an outing in June.) I hope many of you will be playing at this annual event. Please remember that our Club is a co-sponsor of the event and has contributed several hundred dollars in support of this event. If you want to play and have not received the invitation form, please contact Dave Lindsay at 714-563-9111 or me at 909-946-5025 or donsorsabal@verizon.net. In addition, the Tournament Committee is in need of door prizes. If you can either secure or provide a door prize, please contact me ASAP.

The check & completed reservation form must be received no later than May 14. If there are not at least 16 players signed up by that date the outing is subject to cancellation.

El Bekal Shrine Golf Club

The March Club outing saw a large group of members and guests venture to Indio where we stayed in the condominiums at the Indian Palms Vacation Club and played the Indian Palms Courses. On Sunday, eleven of our group played the Royal and Mountain courses. That was just a warm up round for a few. On Monday 24 players played the Indian and Mountain courses. We enjoyed great hospitality on both Sunday and Monday evenings courtesy of Dee Sorsabal & Sondra Closson. The Tempura Shrimp seemed to be the hit of the evenings. Beverages flowed to the level each person wanted and what a selection of beverages--nothing but prime spirits.

Monday’s event was an individual game. Low gross was won by Jerry Soba a guest of Ken Daut with a score of 80. Second, with an 86 was Don Sorsabal. Jo Pat Williams posted a 96 for third place gross. Past President Ken Daut won the low net with a 66. Joe Hammond took second net with a 69 and President Roger Ross posted a net 77 for third place.

In the women’s division, Sondra Closson (a perennial winner) secured first with a gross 109. The Club’s next regular monthly tournament will be on Monday, April 12 at the Mesa Linda Course at the Costa Mesa Golf Course. This event will be a two-person scramble gross event. Your tournament chair will form the teams based upon current handicaps. The April Tournament cost for golf will be $50.00 each including the prize fund. The Business Meeting will begin at 9:00 AM. The first tee time is 10:00 AM. Social hour and awards will follow the golf tournament.

At this writing, we have seven persons signed up for the April outing at Costa Mesa Golf club.^.

Only thirteen players found enough energy after the Indio weekend to play the Dad Miller Course on February 16. The shortage of players may also have been caused by the information that was out that “sandbagger” Dick Joyce was signed up to play. In any case, fun was had by all, except your tournament chairman who had a miserable game shooting double par on two holes.

This month we were not graced by any of the ladies. They are probably saving their energy for the March Outing at the Indian Palms Country Club. The February Tournament at Dad Miller was an individual netball tournament. The winner with a net 60 was Dick Joyce. In second place was Joe Hammond with a net 64. Bill Meeks captured third place with a net 69.

For the closest to the pin holes, the closest to the pin prizes were paid to: Bill Meeks on holes #7, #9, & #13. Joe Simpson edged out Bill Meeks on hole #11.

That outing will be in place of a March Event for the Club. If anyone who has not yet signed up wishes to participate in the March Tournament contact me immediately. I will check to see if I can increase our numbers. We currently have 7 condominiums requested, 7 players for Sunday, March 21st and 22 for March 22^nd.

El Bekal has been invited to enter teams in the THIRD ANNUAL RED FEZ INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT by the El Zaribah Shriners, Phoenix, AZ. The tournament will be played at the ASU Karsten Golf Club 1125 East Rio Salado Pkwy, Tempe, AZ. This tournament is limited to Shriners only. The tournament is held in conjunction with the Annual Western Shrine Association meeting. If you are interested in playing in this tournament, or attending the Western Shrine Association Meeting, contact me ASAP.

Sixteen players enjoyed a day of golf at the Birch Hills Golf Course for El Bekal’s Golf Club’s first golf outing in 2010. Even our Treasurer, Bill Miller, could not make it this time. . Only three of our ladies were able to join us this time.

This tournament was a partner’s better netball for the men and individual net for the ladies. In the women’s division in first place was Carol Albright with a net score of 62. Lynn Ross was second with 64 and third was Barbara Joyce with a net 70. Because the three women were so close in score they decided to equally divide the award.

In the men’s division, the team of Joe Simpson and Orland Weiss took first place with a net score of 44. Second place went to the team of Joe Hammond and Dick Joyce with a net 46. In third place was the team of Bill Meeks and Robert Hyslop with a net score of 48.

For the closest to the pin holes, the closest to the pin prizes were paid to: Past Potentate Don Sorsabal on hole #3. Because the record sheet for hole # 7 was lost, the closest to the pin award was split between Jo Pat Williams and Bill Meeks. No one got a ball on the green on hole # 15 so the prize money for that unclaimed hole was awarded the low net winner of the day, Orland Weiss. Orland had a net score of 53.

The Club’s next outing will be on February 16 at the Dad Miller Golf Course this event will be an individual net event using the latest handicaps. The February Tournament cost for golf will be $46.00 each including the prize fund. Business meeting will begin at 9:30 AM. The first tee time is 10:30 AM. Social hour and awards will follow the golf tournament.

I must receive reservations & checks no later than February 1. Those reservations & checks received after that date will be placed upon a waiting list pending available space. The Club has tee times for 24 players.
