El Bekal Shrine Golf ClubUnder the Jurisdiction of El Bekal Shrine Anaheim, California
President Roger Ross got the New Year off with a bang. Deciding to make the game a bit more challenging he imported some 20 mile an hour wind just to test the players’ skills. What he found, however, was that the course was tough enough without the wind as the scores showed. Even our new member Tom Burnett (the pro) encountered some difficulty and recorded a score of 96. Scores ranged from a 92 to 131. It was a real challenge. However, new member Tom was able to capture 3 of the four closest to the pin prizes and was paid at the end of the round. As indicated at Willowick last month our desire is to really have this as a social club and the prizes are and will be, awarded at the course after play. That way we can socialize and the prize winners can “gloat” about their “great game” and maybe even offer to buy a beverage.
At the meeting, a ballot was distributed to all attendees in an attempt to secure input for preferred courses to be played in 2010. On the ballot of potential courses, please indicate your three (3) choices in priority order 1, 2, 3. All members & potential members are requested to return the ballot.
Since the 2009 schedule is now set. A copy of the 2009 schedule is also enclosed with this newsletter so that you can better plan your recreational activities for 2009. Most of 2009 dates are set for the second Tuesdays. It is understood that this may not be the most convenient day for all. If you would like to vary the days in 2010 on your ballot please indicate your preferences. In any case please return your preference ballot, Roster & Reservation form, and your fees to me by return mail. I would like to begin putting the 2009 roster together and schedule the tournaments for 2010.
I have now begun to enter the 2009 scores into a computer program from which a handicap system can be developed. During the course of 209 I would like to have a few “tournaments” using valid handicaps, either those generated from our system or one that you might already have such as the SGGA, Pub links or the IGN. Fun competitions can really make the game more enjoyable and our goal this year is to increase golf participation and social interaction.
As indicated in the previous newsletter, dues are now due. After reading the Golf Club’s bylaws, I find that funds are supposed to be sent to the tournament chairman (that’s Me) so Please send in your annual membership dues of $15.00 and your tournament fees for each tournament to the Vice President, Don Sorsabal, 951 St. Andrews Dr. Upland, CA 91784. I will need the information on the Dues & Roster information form to create an accurate mailing list. I do not want to leave out anyone who wishes to be a member, to play in the games, or wants to be kept informs of the happenings of the Golf Club. Using the reservation form located at the bottom of this newsletter. Please send in your 2009 dues and your reservation form for the next tournament. The next tournament will be held at the Birch Hills course at 2250 E. Birch St, Brea, CA. on February 17. Cost of this tournament will be $37.00 ea. This is a short course with no 5 pars. Please get your reservation in to me ASAP. If you have not paid your 2009 dues yet, please include the $15.00 fee with you reservation fee and Dues and Roster information form. Don’t forget to return your ballot also. It should be understood that reservations made are considered reservations paid.
