August was a great month for the El Bekal Golf Club. First, on the morning of August 15^th we had 19 golfers tee off for our monthly golf tournament. This was the best turn-out for the year. Our next to the newest member, Carl Spalin brought a guest, Ron Muto, and Ron won the Low Gross with an 86. Carl was second with an 89. We have a challenge, Nobles, so let’s all brush up on our games and get some healthy competition going. Illustrious Sir David Suehs was third with a 92. Secondly we brought in a new member, John Elwell and he tied for fifth place with Bill Miller and Jo Pat Williams. We had four ladies golfing with us and Carol Albright and Ginger Black tied for low gross for the ladies with 118s. Pete Edgar also joined us on the course for the first time but unfortunately his daughter Carrie had to work so she couldn’t come. Maybe in September.

Following our tournament we had a Joint Potentate’s Official Visitation with the Directors Staff, Oriental Band, and Past Master’s Club. We had a fantastic meal of Lemon Pepper Chicken, Cheesy Mashed Potatoes, Mixed Vegetables, Tea, Coffee, and Coke (of course) with a scrumptious desert of warm Apple Crisp with Whipped Topping. I believe everyone was very satisfied with the meal. We then had our presentations for the Potentate, Illustrious Sir John Rider and First Lady Barbara. John presented the Presiding Officer of each organization with a beautiful crystal eagles circling the globe and , of course, a Freedom Rider for the ladies. Lynn’s Freedom Rider was a little traumatized because he had to share the gift bag with Slither, John’s personal present to me of a five foot snake, in “honor (?)” of my position as Temple Attorney.

Next month’s tournament will be at Dad Miller Golf Course with the meeting at 8:30am as usual and our normal tee-off times starting at 9:30am. Please send your reservation form and check for $29.00 per golfer to Bill Miller as soon as possible and call me so we can get an accurate count as to how many tee times we need. I’ll remind everyone that we have a minimum block of three times (12 golfers) reserved and need to know a week ahead of time so we can get additional starting times if necessary. Otherwise it’s first come-first serve out of necessity. Please call me as soon as you know you and your group will be golfing so I can get you on the list.
