We had a great weekend for our Indio/President’s Day campout. And as usual, our members performed plenty of antics for me to write about. First off, long time experienced RVer Mike Black expertly backed his travel trailer into his assigned campsite, carefully avoiding the electrical hookup post, and ensuring that the sewer hose would reach. He then set out the leveling jacks and proceeded to extend the slideout room which promptly hit the water faucet standpipe breaking it off and causing a twenty foot tall water geyser that would make the LA water main people proud. It took awhile to find the campground maintenance people and they had to shut off the water main to our whole block for a few hours which gave everyone a chance to tell Mike about it.
Not to be outdone, our club vice president, Bob Martin, certainly endeared himself to his wife, Susan, who had spent all day Saturday making up the artificial flower centerpiece arrangements for the Nomad Pote’s Visit Brunch on Sunday. When she was done, she carefully put them into a white plastic bag and hung them from an overhead cabinet inside their motorhome. So when Bob came back to the rig after a round of golf and saw this white trash liner bag hanging full of “stuff”, he naturally assumed it was trash for him to dispose of. Well, by the time Susan noticed the missing flowers that evening, the Dumpster had been compacted and Bob was sent Dumpster Diving After Dark. Thankfully, the needed bag was on top of the pile and did not get badly squashed. The flowers fluffed out nicely for the brunch and Bob took the inevitable teasing in stride.
With Bert and Audrey Ekstrom in charge, the Pote’s Official Visit on Sunday went off very well as usual, even though the campground had double booked the main club room with an earlier breakfast group and a full-on church service at the same time as our event. Well, the early breakfasters cleared out just in time for us to come in and set up for our brunch, and the Church people were sent to the other side of the park to a smaller clubroom for a more traditional communion. We had about 106 people show up for our POV Brunch and we had plenty of food, margaritas and good socialization. The only problem President Bob Lash had was that the white Nomad jacket for presentation to the Pote got held up in the eastern snowstorms and he had to improvise.
We had eleven rigs at the Sands RV Resort , with a few more members who came over from other accommodations to visit and for our great potluck meals. We looked forward to welcoming a guest couple, Joe Stout and his wife, Jeannie, who rented a motorhome for the weekend to join us but got sick and had to cancel at the last minute. Try again another time Joe so you can enjoy the lifestyle and see how much fun we have. We also had a visit at our February dinner meeting from a couple of old friends that we hope to see again. Bill Ridenour came as a guest with Butch and Henny Kersey who haven’t been to a campout or Nomad dinner for ages. Perhaps they will respond to our nudge to haul their RVs out of storage and come have some fun with us.
And you can join us too with a rented one just as Joe Stout almost did. Just give a call to our President, Bob Lash at (949) 498-5013 or our Vice President, Bob Martin at (714) 964-8503 and they’ll be glad to answer all your questions. If you’d rather come to a dinner meeting, be sure and call Bob Martin before hand as we have been getting over 40 people to attend lately and the room is only so big.
