Well we found out how to get a great turnout at our dinner meetings. It seems that a Past Pote as club president must be a big draw. For our first dinner meeting of 2010 with Illustrious Bob Lash wielding his gavel, our January meeting had 48 reservations called in and 51 people showed up, overfilling the room. It was wonderful and we need to see if the room can be set to feed more people.
Ron and Phyllis Kay were the wagonmasters for the January campout at the Golden Palms Resort in Hemet and Ron’s knees are just now recovering from long periods of praying for no rain. He was mostly successful, as the downpours stopped Friday evening after everyone was there, and the skies stayed clear for the rest of the weekend. We had nine rigs in attendance plus Chuck Hughes and Ann who stayed in a local motel after deciding they didn’t want to haul their trailer out in the rain. We also welcomed Gary and Arlene Leister who drove out to say “hi” and share in the potluck dinner. Several others cancelled altogether because the skies looked so menacing. On Friday evening the wagonmasters provided a great chicken dinner that everyone consumed in a nice roomy and dry clubhouse, followed Saturday morning with a breakfast of pancakes and eggs prepared by Phyllis and Ron Kay plus Bert Ekstrom. Saturday afternoon most people hung out and socialized waiting to eat again at the evening Potluck supper in the clubhouse. You can tell it’s a Shrine group by the heaping tables of food.
By the time you read this, our Nomad Official Potentate’s Visit in Indio will most likely be past tense. If so, we hope you were there over President’s Weekend and that you enjoyed the brunch and the parade. What we still have ahead of ourselves are more campouts, the one in March being at Tucalota Springs just outside of Temecula on the 19th and 20th. After that comes Oak Creek down in south San Diego county on April 30th to May 1 followed by a new campout location in Yucaipa on May 18 – 19. We hope to see you at one of them.
We know that several of you have camping rigs that are sitting around unused with no good excuses. So hook it up and join us for a weekend of fun and fellowship. Just give a call to our new President, Bob Lash at (949) 498-5013 or our new Vice President, Bob Martin at (714) 964-8503 and they’ll be glad to answer all your questions. If you’d rather come to a dinner meeting, be sure and call Bob Martin before hand as our meeting room is really getting crowded.
