We had eleven rigs and beautiful cool crisp weather for the whole weekend. Our usual entertainment of watching the late comers try to park their rigs was not very special, Chuck Hughes even backed his travel trailer into his spot all by himself with no problems. Sally Fuquay did cause some concern when she showed up with a head wound suffered from a fall in the motorhome while she was up walking back to get Hank a cookie during the trip down. It seems she slipped on a loose throw rug. But it was Ron Kay who provided the entertainment spectacle Friday afternoon. Ron was the only one who had put out his patio awning to shade the afternoon sun. Well, there was a light breeze going but suddenly there was a very sudden and unexpected strong wind gust that came up and flipped his awning up and over his motorhome, breaking the brackets that hold it to the roof and separating the support arms. It caused quite a “boom” sound as it broke the brackets and landed on the roof and of course we all heard it and came over to console him. So while wife Phyllis called the insurance company to start a damage claim, Ron called a mobile RV service that came over and took down what remained of the awning and hauled it away. Cocktail hour started just before five o’clock so that we wouldn’t be late. Dinner was supposed to start at 6 PM but we had to wait for Chuck Hughes and Ann who showed up about a quarter past after having been missing all afternoon and even through cocktail hour. Dinner was pizza and salad supplied by Bob and Donna Lash who won a standing ovation as wagon masters. After dinner and the Lakers game, “Little John” Ludwig set up a propane campfire for everyone to sit around and enjoy until sometime after 10 PM. After a great breakfast of cinnamon French toast and sausage on Saturday morning, most of the women took off to sample the Viejos Outlet mall and spend their husband’s money. Meanwhile several of the guys went to explore the area between the campground and the Mt. Laguna Shrine RV campground that is run by the El Bahr Shriners. Of course that included a stop off on the way back to see what was inside the Viejos Indian Casino. What wasn’t in there was a Wheel of Fortune slot machine payoff that Bob Martin hoped would buy him a new diesel pusher motorhome. We were back in plenty of time to watch the Kentucky Derby on TV or take a nap before cocktail hour. The gals were gone lots longer than the guys were, but they said it’s a big outlet mall. At six PM we sat down to a great potluck dinner in the clubhouse, and Chuck and Ann were there promptly. Of course it was potluck, but with intentionally no guidance at all on what to bring. This wagon-master loves surprises, but of course the Nomad couples came through with a great balanced feast of BBQ ribs, chicken breasts, a couple of wonderful salads, and of course some great deserts. We also welcomed previous members Jason and Denise Dieterman to join us for dinner; they now live in the San Diego area just south of Chula Vista. The next morning we packed up and waved goodbye until the next campout, recognizing that this is a great way to spend a few days each month. You can do it too, and to find out more just give a call to our President, Bob Lash at (949) 498-5013 or our Vice President, Bob Martin at (714) 964-8503 and they’ll be glad to answer all your questions. If you’d rather come to a dinner meeting, be sure and call Bob Martin for reservations before hand. |
