They had 12 rigs all together and the weather was great except that the first day was a little cool. But it warmed up after that and the small downstairs clubroom was just the right size for the group, which included long absent Jim and Margie McAdams and our new members Hans and Priscilla Lindquist. Several rigs showed up a day or two early and some of those folks took a drive out to visit the Point Loma lighthouse, while another couple of rigs stayed an extra day to soak up the sun and enjoy lunch at San Diego’s Knob Hill restaurant. Not that plenty of food wasn’t available at the campout, where I understand Corinne really cranked out the food. She made breakfast every morning and whipped up home-made ice cream one afternoon and it was reported that she and Gary McJilton did an excellent job as wagonmasters. The only screw up that anyone would admit to was that Bert Ekstrom forgot his promise to bring the big Nomad coffee pot to the campout from it’s storage spot in his garage at home. So everyone had to bring their own coffee to the meals, no big deal. But thanks anyway Bert for “fessing up” since Judy and I were on a land/sea cruise in Alaska at the time and I could not make my own observations. The Nomads also provided a foursome for the El Bekal Shrine Golf Tournament held June 12 at the Upland Hills Country Club, comprised of Bert Ekstrom, Bob Lash, Bob Martin, and a non-Shriner friend. They had a great time, although it was reported that Bob Martin proved that he should not wear white shorts in public. I understand that the details are hilarious. On a more serious note, we are happy to report that Sally Fuquay is home recovering from successful spinal neck surgery to fix some nerve problems she had. Hank says she is ornery and complaining about his nursing skills, so she must be getting better but not yet ready for visitors. We also understand that Bert Morris is also now home following a hospitalization due to complications from kidney stones. We hope that both of them are soon well enough to rejoin us at one of our future campouts. For that matter we hope that you too will consider joining us for either one of our fun campouts or dinner meetings this summer. Just give a call to our President, Bob Lash at (949) 498-5013 or our Vice President, Bob Martin at (714) 964-8503 and they’ll be glad to answer any questions or make reservations for one of our 2nd Tuesday of the month dinner meetings. |
