It was breezy during the day but it was a wonderful event due to the hard work of wagonmasters John and Elaine Ludwig. They planned the event and supplied and prepared all the great meals for the entire weekend. None of the wives needed to cook a single meal or potluck dish. Friday evening started out with a BYOB cocktail hour in the clubhouse followed by a dinner of salad, bread, and Sloppy Joes. This was followed with John handing out scavenger hunt bags to everyone, which were to be returned the following evening. The evening ended with Bob Martin arriving late but not without providing some entertainment. It seems that he was interrupted in his coach setup by a question about hooking-up utilities from a non-Nomad "newby" in an adjacent RV site. Anyway by the time Bob got back to his own process in the dark of the evening, he was out of sync with himself. When Susan asked him about all the water pouring off the roof of his beautiful Beaver motorhome, he realized he had hooked up his water supply to the black water holding tank flush connection. Naturally the tank overfilled and flowed up the vent pipe to the roof. Luckily, the shutter valve on the toilet held most of the blue chemical enriched overflow back and it only filled the toilet bowl enough to make a “blue moon” effect on the first user. Sheriff Hank Fuquay told the whole story at breakfast the next morning, and I have to say, VP Bob Martin took the ribbing from everyone real well. But he does hope that this was only a “once in a blue moon” thing. Boomer Smith missed the first telling of the story and was late to breakfast because, he said, he and Kathy were testing the new “sleep number” mattress in his rig. Saturday evening’s meal was a unique “pasta bar”, orchestrated by wagon masters John “Luigi” and Elaine Ludwig. They set up four small portable stovetop burners in front of a tub full of precooked pasta and a great selection of shrimp, sausage, chicken, onion, and other additives and custom sautéed a dish for each one of us. They were so organized that they served about 30 people in less than 45 minutes and it tasted great. Afterwards the results of the scavenger hunt were judged, but some questions were raised because the winner was the wife of head judge Sheriff Fuquay. After dinner most of us gathered around the great washtub campfire at the wagonmaster’s rig and talked until it was time for bed. As you can see, the Nomads continue to have fun and enjoy their RVs. You can learn more about our activities by dropping by, like the Pote and his Lady did, or by joining us at one of our dinner meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Coco’s in Huntington Beach just off the 405 near the Westminster Mall. But not in December, that’s holiday party month. Be sure to give Bob Martin a call to make advance dinner reservations at (714) 964-8503. Questions can be given to our lame duck president, Bob Lash, at (949) 498-5013. |
