The Nomads had no campout scheduled for December but did have a great Christmas Party at the Shrine Center with over 68 people in attendance. This included about 10 Purveyor couples who joined us in celebrating the holidays, and they were especially welcome as they provided the liquid supplies. The Nomads contributed to the cost, but it was really convenient to not have to go out and purchase and then liquidate or store all the leftovers. In addition we had Jim Rich on stage to provide the entertainment, John Rider to run the slide show of photos compiled by Bert Ekstrom from past campouts and other events, and we feasted on great Prime Rib and Cordon Bleu for dinner. “Little John” Ludwig added some humor with his animated reindeer antler hat that he wore during cocktail hour, but he didn’t think it was so funny when the hat mysteriously disappeared during dinner. That added more excitement and drama to the evening, and he got the hat back just as they were leaving for the evening. In February the Nomads will have their annual Potentate’s Official Visit during the President’s Holiday Weekend as part of the Indio Date Festival Parade events, which is Feb 18-21. We will again be camped at the Sands RV and Golf Resort in Desert Hot Springs and the POV will be on Sunday in the large clubroom there. This event is a great Mexican Brunch that includes almost all you can drink Margaritas and is open to everyone for the modest cost of $23 per person. The pitchers will start flowing about 10 AM and the meal will be served about 10:45, but you need to make advance reservations with Bert Ekstrom before hand (see the notice elsewhere in this publication). Our Nomad campouts for the first half of the upcoming year start out with a pleasant weekend at the Chula Vista RV Resort and Marina over the weekend of January 21-23. Next is our Desert Hot Springs Pote’s Visit from Feb. 18 to Feb. 21, and then we go to Tucalota Springs in Temecula for March 18-20. April will find the Nomads in Yucaipa the weekend of April 8-10, and May will be back at the Chula Vista Resort with Shriner rigs from all over the western USA during the annual Western Shrine Campers Association Rally the week of May 1 - 8. June is at the Oak Creek RV Park in El Cajon the weekend of June 10-12, and July is up north at the Oceano Elks Lodge over the weekend of July 15-18. We hope you’ll put one of more of these dates on your calendar and join us, either with your rig for the weekend or just drive out and join us for our famous Saturday night potluck dinner. Or join us at one of our dinner meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Coco’s in Huntington Beach just off the 405 near the Westminster Mall. Either way, just give our new President, Bob Martin, a call in advance at (714) 964-8503 and let him know we’ll have a guest or two. If Bob is out at his motorhome again repairing something he just broke, give a call to our Vice President, Ron Kay at (562) 425-3759.
