tin-lizzies

Dale Edwards, Dec. 1, 2009

Except for being relocated very far back in the sequence of groups, which caused a long wait time, the Tin Lizzies had a great time at the Anaheim Halloween parade. Seven Lizzies were there under the darkening evening skies, all decorated with lights, pumpkins, and Halloween garlands. Bill Walls went all out and had a large ghost and other items on his car. Adding to the parade merriment was a visiting Al Bahr Lizzier from Hemet, John Lake, with his decorated Lizzie. Best of all, the crowds were plentiful and all the Lizzies started and finished under their own power. After the parade, all the parading Lizziers and the three sideline Lizzie Ladies, including John Lake’s wife Myrtle, went to dinner at the nearby Bella Marri’s Italian Restaurant to cap off a great time.

At our November business meeting we finalized planning and presentations for our Potentate’s Official Visit on Nov. 15 at the Shrine Center. We also elected the new Lizzie officers for 2010 that were recommended by our nominating committee. Our new Captain will be John Edgmon and our new Lieutenant will be Rick Meadows. Robert Schramm will continue as Treasurer, and I will take over the Secretary duties from Robert who is tired of doing both jobs.

The Pote’s Visit had over 40 people in attendance, and featured a nice Italian dinner from Katella Grill with complementary wine and beer to smooth things along. Gifts were exchanged as is customary, the Potentate giving Captain Ed a beautiful lighted crystal décor item and Ed gave him a little plaque mounted Tin Lizzie which the Pote noted with humor was painted green, not black with red trim. We’ll have to fix that next year. Our previous source of Lizzie miniatures is out of business and we have tried all year to find another source. But the Pote was not at all critical of the next Lizzie gifts which included a check for $300 for the Hospital Transportation fund and another $500 check in honor of the Lizzie Ladies for the Shrine Hospital for Children. Finally, Carol Roberts presented the Pote’s Lady with a beautiful Lizzie engraved decanter filled with holiday colored M&Ms.

Upcoming in December are the Hemet Christmas Parade on the 5th and the Laguna Niguel Christmas Parade on Dec. 12, plus our annual Lizzie Christmas Party on Dec. 15. But those will be past tense by the time you read this. Incidentally, the best way to stay up with what’s going on with the Lizzies is to visit our monthly meetings on the second Monday of each month. Of course during your meeting visit you will probably become enamored with the idea of having your own Lizzie and will want to join the fun. That’s no problem, just call our lame duck Captain, Ed Roberts at (714) 522-7917, or our current Lieutenant, John Edgmon at (714) 639 0337 to get more details as the holiday season is a little different than usual.
