tin-lizzies

Dale Edwards, Dec. 1, 2010

We had eight Lizzies at the Anaheim Halloween parade; most of them decorated with pumpkins and other garnishes. All started and finished the parade without incident, including mine thankfully. But not having any incidents to write about makes the task kind of boring. Anyway, the formation gathering was a little confusing as we were supposed to line up on Harbor Blvd but they didn’t stop traffic on the street until just a few minutes before the start time, so we found a side street and waited there. At the end of the parade and after the Divan salute, the local police force invited some other units and us over to a nearby curb for a photo session with them. All in all it was a good parade.

Another good thing was the influx of new Tin Lizzie members following the El Bekal “Hot Sands” in November. We took in six new members at our November business meeting and they are: Steven Butler, Eugene DeRaad, Curtis Hooper, Dr Skip Moore, James Segerstrom, and Mike Selix. We are happy to have them in El Bekal and especially the Tin Lizzies. We hope to see some of them in a parade real soon.

What’s really good is that these young new members are with us just in time to help with the effort of putting on the annual Tin Lizzie Western Dance and Steak Fry. This great event will take place as usual on the first Friday of March, that’s March 4, 2011, at the Shrine Center and we invite everyone to come and have a good meal and some great fun. The tickets will be available from any Tin Lizzie member after the first week in January for $25 per person for dinner and dancing to the music of Gary Myers, who now leads the band previously led by Sammy Masters.

We hope to see you there.

So all is well with the Lizziers. But don’t fret and think that it’s too late for you to also join our happy little group. We can find more cars to renovate and use or to loan you while you customize one for yourself. But like most groups, you need to participate to get any enjoyment out of it. Just drop by one of our monthly meetings around 7 PM on the 2nd Monday of the month at the Shrine Center, or give a call to our Captain, John Edgmon at (714) 639-0337 or soon to be new Captain, Larry Griffin, at (714) 273-0220 to get more specific information.
